Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day

When I think of St. Patrick’s Day, the first thought that comes to mind is green. Green everything, green clothes, green foods, and my favorite for the holiday, green beer. Typically, the ideal way to spend St Patrick’s Day is at an Irish pub. There is something about the authenticity of pubs that elevates the experience. Depending on your location that may not be an option, or if it is it may be extremely crowded. There are a few ways to celebrate at home. After all, what is green beer but light beer with a little food coloring?

If you are hosting a St. Patrick’s Day get together, there is a lot you can do to get into the mood. The decor is easy, anything green with lots of four leaf clovers, Leprechauns, pot-of-gold and rainbows. As for food and drinks, there are many popular options, but one of our favorites is the Irish Nachos. Green beer is always a staple, but even better is my favorite on any day, the Irish Black and Tan. There are also a variety of cocktails that can be made using Irish Cream/Irish Whiskey. Either way, your guests wont be disappointed.

Irish Nachos is made with potatoes, cheese and bacon. The recipe is very simple, the great part is that it can be made without frying. Although, it could be made frying the potatoes then baking it after to melt the cheese.

As for the beers, as mentioned, green beer is basically light beer with a drop of food coloring. If you don’t have green food coloring, mixing a drop of blue and drop of yellow works just fine. Honestly, it didn’t make the beer taste any less delicious. I do recommend a brand called Smithwick’s. They also have and Irish Red Ale, which is also delicious.
