Fourth of July

Bang, bang, bang… sounds of fireworks heard all day. Red, white and blue all around and the smell of BBQ in the air. Independence Day is a special day celebrated in America. Most gather to view fireworks and feast on BBQ.

Patriotism runs deep and expressed in clothing, décor, and even in food/desserts. When hosting a Fourth of July event, it is most likely that you too will use a lot of red, white and blue.

Food/Desserts

There are many ways to incorporate red, white and blue in desserts. Sky is the limit. The most common is to create desserts with fruits like strawberries and blueberries. Alternatively, food coloring can be added to achieve the colors of the American Flag. You can do Jello shots with or without Vodka. Here are some desserts we created for our Fourth of July BBQ.

Banana Pudding with Strawberries and Blueberries

To incorporate the Fourth of July colors, try adding strawberries and blueberries to our original Banana Pudding recipe. It was experimental, but honestly, it will be a recipe we use going forward.

White cupcakes with Red, White and Blue Buttercream Frosting

Cupcakes are great because they are so versatile. You can add food coloring to the batter or to the buttercream instantly transforms them to match the color scheme. To achieve the red, white and blue swirl, I made the buttercream frosting as is.

Chocolate Dipped Oreos

Super simple to prepare and easy to make them whatever color it is needed. It can be dipped partial way or fully covered then decorated with sprinkles, piped chocolate or nuts. For the 4th of July, we used red, white and blue candy melts separately.
