Want it Done Your Way? Do it Yourself!

Have you ever closed your eyes and envisioned the perfect event based on your occasion or theme? You mentally create a checklist of all the décor your mind just conjured along with the foods you want to serve. Filled with inspiration and excitement you then begin your search for the perfect pieces that fit and/or makes a statement that ultimately could make or break your event. Then reality hits, the search for that specific item is not as easy to find or even worse, you find the perfect thing just to be sticker shocked and realize that it is ridiculously overpriced and way over your budget.

Eyes opened, the reality is that you won’t always find what you want especially at the price point you want. You could either frantically search online scouring every marketplace such as Amazon, Walmart, Target, or even random sites like Shein or Temu. If all else fails, there are a lot of unique items on Etsy. However, you then come across a couple more issues, will it arrive on item, what are the exact dimensions, and after all said and done, was it worth the price?

It gets to a point where honestly if you want something done your way it’s best to just do it yourself. I truly believe the “sky is the limit” and the inspiration can run wild. While this article is meant to inspire you to create your own DIY project because, I will caution you that there is a lot that goes into so there needs to be a plan and commitment. Word of advise, you’ll have a lot to already plan for so think twice and pick the items that are very important to you. As the hostess refers to them, I tend to have a lot of pet projects, but I say, “go big or don’t have the event at all”.

Plan for DIY Project

DIY projects have become a lot easier with it being a huge trend and a lot of guidance. However, don’t underestimate the time it takes and the ability to find the items you need to build the perfect creation.

Do your Research

There are countless YouTube videos now that show you how to make certain things. The most logical question is why re-invent the wheel if you don’t have to? Take the advice and know-hows offered freely from those that are giving it. Although, I will say from my experience, I have had mix and match concepts from multiple DIYers, but at the end of the day, I was able to create something that was perfect for my needs.

Pro Hint: Something to keep in mind while researching is understanding your intentions for the project. There is a balance between aesthetics and functionality, and with them being on opposite ends of the spectrum, you need to ask yourself if this something you will re-use or if it is a one time use. This will determine how perfectly engineered it needs to be.

Acquire the Items

Gathering the pieces will be tough. Often times the DIYer will share where they purchased the item they used. Once again, there is the issue of availability and price.

Then to make matters worse, you end up finding that that there are other options, but it just cheapens your aesthetics.
